Dorothy (Dot) Louise Stout, 94, of Oklahoma City, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. Loved deeply by family and known as “TaTa” to her grandchildren, she never stopped learning and cherished her family and friends. Born June 8, 1916, to William J. and Cora Stewart, Dot grew up in Oklahoma with her mother, father, five brothers and sister who all preceded her in death. She attended Scarritt College in Nashville, Tennessee and pursued a degree in fine arts at the University of Oklahoma. On June 12, 1937, Dot married John Bruce Stout. The two, married until Bruce passed away in 1992, enjoyed traveling which complemented Dot’s love for learning about different cultures and her own family heritage. Dot also enjoyed reading and writing. She thought of herself as a “scholar without portfolio,” but her portfolio should certainly include the three books of her poetry that were published and her legacy of influence on family and friends. Aside from being a devoted wife and mother, Dot also worked several years at the University of Oklahoma as the Coordinator of Religious Activities and Foreign Affairs. Her wisdom, wit, thoughtfulness and grace will be missed but remain with all who met her. Dot’s survivors include her son Barry Stout and wife Donita and daughters Karen Davis, Leslie Husseini and Lynda Tice as well as eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and other family members and friends. There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 N.E. 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.
