Douglas Maurice Weese, our husband, father, Papa, brother, friend, and coach, was born June 9, 1947, in Mangum, Oklahoma, to parents Herman “Bud” and Lois Weese. He graduated from Midwest City High School, married the love of his life, Lianne, and joined the Marine Corps, all in the same year, 1965. He continued his education and athletics at the collegiate level at Oscar Rose Junior College.
Coach Weese started coaching Little League in 1973. For the next eight years, he volunteered in school-related and YMCA baseball programs. In 1977, Weese founded, organized, and coached the first Outlaw team. In 1991, he accepted the invitation for the Outlaws to represent American Legion Post 170. Weese led the Post 170 Outlaws to over 1,200 wins. He spent 40+ years of his life coaching baseball. In 2016, he was the first to be inducted into the Rose State Hall of Fame. In 2022, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Baseball Hall of Fame.
When Doug wasn’t on the field, he was busy working at Herman’s Plumbing, the family business, as owner and proprietor while Lianne was the glue that kept the business together.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60+ years, Lianne; daughter, Christy; and son, Kirk; his siblings, Gary, Denise, and Jeana; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Lynse, Hayle, Mayce, Justice, Presley, Cambrye, Trenton, Presley Jade, and Kodie Paige, along with seven great-grandchildren.
Doug strived for his family, players, and everyone he knew to be God-fearing, flag-saluting, disciplined, respectful, hardworking, and positive additions to society.
