

Elmer O. Burnett, 88, of Midwest City, OK passed away on June 9, 2015. The son of William and Blanche (Longwell) Burnett, Elmer was born on 22 July 1926 in Decatur, IL. Elmer was a loving husband, father, philosopher, engineer and musician. His twenty year military service included the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was assigned to the Fifth Army Band at Fort Sheridan, Illinois but also lived in Washington, D.C.; Heiderheim, Germany; Leavenworth, KS; and El Paso, TX. After he retired from the Army, Elmer worked as a Technical Writer for numerous companies including Emerson Electric and Phillips Petroleum's Applied Automation. The family eventually settled in Midwest City, OK. Elmer graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science in 1974 from University of Central Oklahoma. Elmer loved playing the trumpet. He performed with numerous jazz bands and even appeared in the critically acclaimed 1949 movie "Hallo, Fräulein!" He also had the opportunity to play a trumpet flourish for General Douglas MacArthur and play alongside Doc Severinsen when Doc visited the Bartlesville Symphony. As an Apple Computer fanatic from the company's beginning, Elmer owned numerous Apple products throughout the years. Elmer loved rooting for the University of Oklahoma's Sooners (Boomer!) and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Malinda Ozella (Casto); brother William Fallows; and sisters, Beverly Blanche, Yetive Willian, and twin sister Elinor Irene. Survivors include two sons Steven Burnett, Ph.D., of Enterprise, AL and William Burnett, Ph.D., and wife Cynthia of Diamondhead, MS; daughter Elizabeth and husband Chuck Lewis, of Choctaw, OK; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Elmer and the entire family are very thankful for his Angel, Eva June Bowers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home with inurnment to follow at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Midwest City, OK.
