On August 16, 2025, Ernest (Ernie) Dale Medialdea went to be with the Lord, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 95 years old.
We celebrate his life and the positive impact he had on his immediate family, extended family, church family, and hundreds of students in his 32-year teaching career.
Ernie was born September 16,1929 in San Pedro, California.
Ernie graduated from Fremont High School in 1948, joined the United States Air Force later that year and served 6 years receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. In 1950, when he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Butterfield. They had two sons, Michael and Kenneth. They were married for 71 years.
Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill, Ernie attended Pepperdine University, graduating in 1958. Ernie started teaching for the Los Angeles Unified School District at Bancroft Jr. High School in Hollywood. In 1964, he transferred to Carson High School in Carson, California, teaching Math and Computer Science. In all he taught 32 years for LAUSD. Courtesy of LAUSD, Ernie attended summer classes for higher education at Geroge Town University in 1964 and spent the entire school year at Penn State in 1965.
Retiring in 1990, he bought a house in Loveland, Colorado and lived there with his wife Doris for 32 years until she passed away in December of 2021.
For health reasons, Ernie moved to Edmond, Oklahoma in 2022 to be close to his son Michael and lived in Oklahoma for 3 ½ years.
He is survived by his son Michael and wife Ann of Edmond, Oklahoma, and granddaughters Rachael and Melissa.
A private family service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
