Estell was born October 4, 1922, in Magazine, AR, the daughter of Bennie and Emma Newman. She passed away Monday morning, November 6th, 2023, at Highland Meadows Health and Rehab in Rockwall, TX following a fulfilling life and celebration of her 101st birthday.
Estell was united in marriage to Mr. B.C. Dodson on February 8, 1947. In 1949, they welcomed their first daughter, Linda Kay Houchins, and in 1956 they welcomed their second daughter, Janice Leah West.
Estell worked as a secretary in Oklahoma City for many years before retiring in 1987. Estell enjoyed making baby blankets and quilts, all kinds of crafts, going to craft shows (especially "An Affair of the Heart") with her daughters and granddaughters, going to garage sales, and fishing. Craft shows and Cracker Barrel were the perfect places to find her signature sweatshirts. These sweatshirts could be seen in every photo from holidays and birthdays. She was well known in the family for making the best gingerbread men, oyster crackers, and various fruit jellies. Estell’s favorite thing to do in the kitchen was experimenting with new dishes, no matter how they turned out. Her grandkids were often her guinea pigs. Her collection of cups and saucers were out of this world, and one I am sure no one could beat. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her nine grandchildren who lovingly called her Namaw. Christmas was both Estell and Linda's favorite time of year where they could spend all their time with family, baking cookies with their grandchildren, and rocking out to their favorite Christmas music.
She will be very missed but will live in the hearts of her family forever. Estell is survived by her daughter, Janice West and husband, Neal West, of Royse City, TX; her son-in-law, Larry Houchins, of Goldsby, OK; her 3 grandchildren Michelle Askins and husband, Michael, of Edmond, OK, Ryan Houchins and wife, Kenda, of Edmond, OK, and Neal West and wife, Kelly, of Sachse, TX; Along with her 6 great-grandchildren Jessica Gatlin and husband, Travis, of Edmond, OK, Zack Askins of Edmond, OK, Ryleigh, Sophie, and Garrett Houchins of Edmond, OK, and Sydney West of Sachse, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband B.C. Dodson and daughter, Linda Houchins.
Services will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens on November 10th at 2:00pm.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.chapelhill-okc.com for the Dodson family.
