2025, ending his hard fought battle with cancer. There to meet him were his “Pop” - Oania, his “Mama”-
Maxine, and sister, Trena. Left to carry the torch are his wife of 51 years, Dianne; children, Delon (Loni),
Angela (Angie), Sarah, and Jeremiah. His legacy will continue through his 6 grandchildren; John Taylor,
Jessie, Wyatt, Molly, Chayse, and Braxtyn and his great granddaughter, Lydia.
After high school, Gaylon served in the Air Force and following his honorable discharge he worked at
Tinker Air Force Base as a machinist for over 30 years. Gaylon retired to focus on projects on the home
front, care for his parents, and do some hunting, achieving his bucket list trip in July 2024 when he went to Africa.
Gaylon was known for building everything, in his words “--ll for stout”. If he thought of or saw something he thought would be beneficial to the just over 4 acres he and mama owned, he would investigate and
research it and finally make his own version of whatever it may be in a fashion that usually could not be
carried by one person and in many cases needed at minimum a three quarter ton truck to pull or move it.
It was Gaylon’s desire to be cremated and to have his ashes divided and scattered out west (Wolf Creek
Pass and Bonito Pass in Colorado, where we camped as a family growing up) and the remainder go with
Mom. Dad was not all about the flowers, so after speaking with him prior, he liked the idea of in lieu of
flowers, donations being made to “Association of the Friends of the Wichitas”, a non-profit that supports
the refuge.
Whatever he was to you...Honey, Daddy, Dad, Grandpa, Poppy, PaPa, Pops, Gaylon... he will be missed
by all. There is not another like him. That we can promise you.
A memorial service for Gaylon will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162.
Contributions in Gaylon's memory may be made to Friends of the Wichitas, P.O. Box 1032, Cache, Oklahoma 73527 US, https://friendsofthewichitas.org/donate/ or to a charity of your choice.
