George Leon Woods, of Bethany, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 11, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Elzie Boyd Woods and Victoria Lucy Kusek Woods.
George proudly served his country in the United States Marines and carried that same sense of dedication and service throughout his life. He earned his high school diploma and went on to become a man known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need. From 2015 to 2025, he faithfully served as a board member for USEFCU and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served as a warden at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where his faith and servant’s heart were evident to all who knew him.
George was a man who found joy in fixing complicated things and helping others solve problems. His perfect day was spent working with his hands, helping someone repair something, and ending the day with a good steak and mashed potatoes. He loved the colors red and brown, and he especially enjoyed sharing laughter, often getting a kick out of watching someone do something foolish and “find out the hard way.”
More than anything, George treasured his family. He loved Jane, Preston, and every member of his family wholeheartedly. Those who knew him learned from his example of selflessness, kindness, and how to live a happy life by putting others first. George wanted to be remembered as someone who always did what was right despite the cost and who freely gave of his time to help others.
George is survived by his children, Preston Woods and spouse Candita Shoemake of Edmond, Oklahoma; Chris Kluding and spouse Paula Kluding of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Robert Kluding and spouse Trish Westcott of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and Melanie Kluding of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Woods of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Chambers, Lindsey Adkins, Kyle Kluding, Lani Kluding, Tucker Kluding, and Blake Kluding; and two great-grandchildren, Lyla Adkins and Alice Chambers. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
George was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Woods, and sister-in-law, Linda Woods.
George Leon Woods will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, humor, and the steady, loving presence he provided to those around him. His legacy of service and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
