

Harland Dean Storey, 85, of Oklahoma City passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on November 17, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral and Cremation Svc and a celebration of Harland’s life will be held be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 2pm at the Southwest Church of Christ in OKC.
Harland was born on July 27, 1933 in Enid, OK to Charles and Sylvia (Grimm) Storey. Shortly after finishing school he enlisted in the US Army. Later that year he married the love of his life Dolores Turner. In 1960, the couple moved to OKC where Harland became an electronics technician for the Federal Aviation Administration. He retired after 32+ years at the FAA where he made many wonderful friends.
Music had been a passion of his for many years. Harland sang in a barbershop and gospel quartet. He traveled throughout the area sharing his gift with all who would listen. His faith was an important part of Harland’s life. For over three decades Harland served as an elder and a music minister for several local congregations. He visited Russia twice on mission trips. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ for over 20 years.
When he was not working, he enjoyed taking photos and traveling with Dolores in their RV. Southern Colorado was always a favorite destination. Harland was a kind and genuine man who was friendly and well-liked. He went out of his way to bring a smile to the faces of others by pulling jokes on his co-workers and utilizing his remarkable wit and orneriness.
Harland Storey was a faithful follower of Christ, a loving husband, a committed father, a proud grandfather, a dedicated employee, and a trusted friend who will truly be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. Harland was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Susan Morgan, and two sisters Ione Guthrie and Lorna Bonham.
Left behind to carry on his legacy of selfless dedication and compassion is his wife and best friend of 65+ years, Dolores Storey; two daughters: Nancy Storey-Ferris, husband Will Ferris and Connie Rutz. Grandchildren: Jason Dyson and wife Jessica, Chandra Dyson, Nicole Whitmarsh, husband Tim Kernan, Jacqueline Whitmarsh, Michael Barwick, Diane Barwick. Great Grandchildren: Emily Beck, JJ Beck, Macy Dyson, Grady Dyson, Teaghan Dyson, Zachary Freeman, Sterling Shoop, Sawyer Kernan, Kaedance Johnson, Nova Barwick and Hyperion Barwick. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family and friends.
