Harold Frederick Wing (Hal), age 88, of Oklahoma City passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. He and his lovely wife Myrna have resided in Oklahoma City for 44 years. Hal was August 10, 1924, in White Bluffs, Washington, the eldest son of William and Harriet Elizabeth (Eyre) Wing. He lived most of his growing up years in the Seattle, Washington area and graduated as class Salutatorian from Bothell High School in 1942. During World War II He participated in the Meteorological Division of the Army Air Force, working in a then-innovative program designed to “track” thunderstorms using radar. After the war, he returned to school and earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. He spent his professional career working in that field and in particular played a key role in developing a titanium dioxide pigment process used in paint manufacturing. Throughout his life he especially enjoyed spending time in various activities shared with his wife of 64 years, Myrna (Williams) Wing, the love of his life and inseparable companion. Together they were square dancers for 32 years, traveled extensively at home and abroad and spent lots of quality time with family. Service in the community was important to Hal, and over the years he was involved as a Master Gardener, in scouting, the literacy program, tax preparation assistance, and served as treasurer for his neighborhood association. Hal was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother, Robert Bruce Wing, a sister, Charmaine Smith (Chuck), and a beloved son, Jeffrey Allan Wing. He is survived by his wife, Myrna; his sister, Alicia Temme (Mark) of Palo Alto, California; his eldest son, Gregory Wing (Linda) of Billings, Montana; his “favorite” daughter, Marcie Potter (Gary) of Owasso, Oklahoma; by some of the brightest lights in his life, his 11 grandchildren and 18+ great-grandchildren and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Hal was a man of quiet strength, patience and caring with a warm and ready smile for all. He enjoyed spending time with family and dear friends and was an instant friend to everyone he met. Services will be held at Guardian West Funeral Home, 5820 NW 41st St. in Warr Acres. The family will receive friends there on Friday, February 8, 2013 between 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.
