

Herman attended Elmore City High School and upon graduation he joined the U.S Army. He served in WWII as a Rifleman before separating from the military in 1945. Then, he began his career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service. Herman held this position from 1956 to 1987, over 30 years, before retirement.
Any time he could get a chance, Herman could be found gardening, fishing, watching the news, or spending time with his family. He enjoyed their vacations together and being with them was his favorite past time. Hermans faith was important to him, and he attended Draper Park Christian Church and could often be found reading and studying the Bible.
Herman is survived by his child, Tracy Sowers and husband, Kenneth; daughter in law, Sherrie Horton; grandchildren, Lindsay Zoll and husband, Scott, Jeffrey Horton and wife, Jennifer, Taylor Horton, April Nowlin and partner, Jimmy Howard, Jay Horton and Rachel McCown and husband, Evan; great-grandchildren, Ethan Floyd, Zachary Horton, Rylee Horton, Harper Howard, and Dakota Howard; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobby Horton; Son, Mark Horton; parents, Emory and Margaret Horton; siblings, Walter “Buck” Horton and wife, Dora, Emory Horton and wife, Pauline, and Margaret Abbott and husband Ken.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 11,2025 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, located at 1906 S Chickasaw St, Pauls Valley, OK 73075.
