Jack Lovegrove, 97, passed into eternal life on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Integris SW Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was the widower of Norma Jean (Coggins) Lovegrove who pre-deceased him in 2004, after 60 years of marriage.
Born in Alma, Arkansas, the son of William and Ethel (Holland) Lovegrove Stephens. He attended school in Arkansas, and joined the Civilian Conversation Corp. Jack enlisted in the US Navy in 1942. Jack graduated from Submariner School in New London, CT and was assigned to the USS Kingfish SS-234 and stationed in the South Pacific during the latter part of WWII. He often said, “Most of the hard work was done by the time I was old enough to join.”
After leaving the Navy in 1945, he selected a new training – installation and maintenance of Heating and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC). Mr. Lovegrove was a member of Union Local 344, Plumbers and Pipefitters from 1958 until his death. After retiring in 1989, he used his skills to serve his community, local churches, a nonprofit clinic in Norman and many mission trips until he was in his mid-80’s. It was very hard for him to stop working because there were always family, friends and “some older people” who needed help.
Jack Lovegrove was a humble, hard-working, kind, faithful and loving man who loved God and his family, who cared for his friends and is remembered for his love of God, generosity, kind spirit and love of German Chocolate Cake. He was raised in the church and his faith sustained him throughout many difficult times in his life.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Julie Lovegrove of Noble; his granddaughters, Krista (Lovegrove) Borrego and husband David; Christina Dillion and husband John; his great-grandchildren, Christopher and Wendi Borrego, Pamela and Alonzo Anderson, David Borrego, Jr., Micaela Borrego, Michelle and Lee Goad; ten great-great grandchildren, Caden, Aaron, Noah and Alina Anderson; Jackson, Brooklyn and Landon Borrego; Dylan Shoestock, Lucas and Brayden Goad. His brother Sonny Stephens, sister, Delima Fields and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean; son, Jackie Don; his grandsons, Michael Lovegrove, II and Joshua Jack Lovegrove; parents, William and Ethel Lovegrove; brother, David; sisters, Alma Jean Thomas and Gertrude Brown;
A come-and-go visitation for Jack will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service-South Chapel, 7720 South Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73159.
