Jack McCollum, 93, passed away in the early morning hours of May 13, 2016 at his home in Yukon, OK. A lifelong resident of Oklahoma, Jack was born September 6, 1922 near Altus to Grady and Rena Bell Satterfield McCollum. Jack grew up in Oklahoma City. Always a scrapper, he took great pride in his fighting prowess, boxing for sacks of groceries as a boy at Wheeler Park during the Depression and later as a champion Golden Gloves boxer. As World War II geared up, shortly after his eighteenth birthday, Jack enlisted in the United States Army on September 19, 1940, where he served for one year. Immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Jack re-enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Pacific. He was a machine gunner participating in action against the enemy on Kwajalein Atoll; Saipan; Tinian and Iwo Jima. After serving four D-Days and honoring his country with his service for more than five years, Jack was honorably discharged on November 16, 1945. These years as a marine were the most impactful on Jack’s life. Returning home after the war, Jack became an accomplished upholsterer, having his own shop in Britton for many years. On June 17, 1950 Jack married his beloved wife, Patti Sue Horton, in Little Rock, Arkansas. They were happily married for 48 years before Patti’s passing in 1998. Jack was predeceased by his parents and younger sisters, LaVerne McCollum Erwin and Vinita McCollum Piatt. He is survived by his four children, Marty McCollum, Mark McCollum and wife JoAnn, Marsha Cole, and Marilyn Hickman; twelve grandchildren, Andrew, William, Kevin, Jessica, Stephanie, Cody, Brian, Brittany, Briah, Dustin, Mallory, and Drew; and many great-grandchildren. Services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, Jack's request, "kindly cast your vote in the upcoming Presidential Election for Anyone other than hillary clinton." "Semper Fi."
