

Jack Hill Mitchell returned to his Heavenly Father on January 12, 2011. Jack was born to Arthur L. and Gladys Hill Mitchell December 22, 1918 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Educated in Wynnewood Public School System, he graduated in 1936. He attended the University Of Oklahoma Business School from 1936-1940 majoring in Business Management; and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Jack worked for Cosco Oil Company at the Wynnewood Refinery prior to entering service of the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served in the CBI Theatre from 1944 until his discharge in 1946. Jack was employed by Kerr McGee in Wynnewood, Frankfurt, Kentucky, and Oklahoma City where he chose early retirement in 1982. He later joined Oklahoma Tank Lines where he took final retirement in 2003. He was VP of General Asphalt Company, General Manager of Refined Petroleum Products, and served on the Board of Directors of the Asphalt Institute for several years and was Chairman of the Board in 1975.
Jack picked up his first golf club at the age of 11 and loved a lifetime of golf with his wife, Hodie, and his family. Belonging to Twin Hills Golf and Country Club from 1961 – 2005, he served on its Board of Directors many times during these years. Jack enjoyed many happy family and golf vacations both in this country as well as Scotland and Ireland. He loved music of all types and was an excellent dance partner, especially Big Band and popular songs of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. Sooner Football, Basketball and the Professional Golf Tour will miss their greatest fan.
The Mitchell’s were members of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, St. John’s Episcopal Church and All Souls’ Episcopal Church. Jack was a longtime friend of Bill W.
Jack is preceded in death by, Hodie, his beloved wife. Jack is survived by his children, Meegan of Crested Butte, Colorado, and Mike of Oklahoma City; his grandchildren, Destenie, Lindsey, Mitchell, Chelsea and Nicole; and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at All Souls’ Episcopal Church.
In lieu of gifts or flowers the family requests memorials be made to All Souls’ Episcopal Church, Frontier Hospice or The Northside Foundation.
