We sadly announce the sudden, peaceful passing of our son’s Best Dad Ever and my beloved Husband of 49 years, James (Doug) Douglas King, 68, of Oklahoma City on March 28th, 2026. He is resting now with total peace, safe now in the awaiting hands of his loving family. Our hearts are broken but, his loving arms will surround us
forever. We cherish his memory. ~ Rena, Chris, Jon and Ben.
Doug was born February 11th, 1958 to his loving parents Marjorie Gwendolyn and James Russell King here in Oklahoma City, OK. He grew up happy, comfortable and blessed with many cousins and neighborhood friends to play with. With his family he went on fascinating vacations all over the United States. His father was a Lieutenant Colonel and pilot who flew reconnaissance during World War II and later retired from Tinker Field. His Mother was a local artistic painter who traveled the world studying with renowned artists. His parents have passed on before him as well as his young sister; "Sissy”, Uncles; Howard and Douglas Berlin, Aunt JoJo, Cousins; Julie of OK, Joe and Kristen Berlin, and so many more loved ones.
Doug was known for his beautiful blue eyes, his warm gentle smile, and he was a handsome gentleman just like his dad Jim. Always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, he had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His calm kindness, endless intelligence and generosity touched countess lives.
I, his wife, Rena of 49 years, and our 3 wonderful sons, Christopher Lee, Jonathan Michael, and Benjamin Alan King will forever miss him from our earthly hold as well as his Berlin cousins; Johnny, Jimmy and wife Shelley and children, Connie, Gary and wife Cari, Linda and Julie Buford of CA, Friends; David and Ronald Faupell and Family, Steve Littrell and wife Nancy, Lynn Takahata and Family, Ernest Goforth and many more beloved family members and friends.
Not long after our marriage he went to work for the Oklahoma City Public Schools where he was very proud to serve as an Electronic Technician ultimately retiring Network Services well-loved and well-respected on December 31st, 2025 after 40 years.
Doug mainly loved being with family after work and enjoying his various hobbies at home whether that meant bringing home, quite literally, a movie theater, a video store, a radio station, an arcade gallery or any of the many other large and fascinating pursuits he enjoyed. He was always interested satellite broadcasting and was known to casually acquire a 30ft dish here and there. Around 1990 he applied for and received a television broadcast license from the FCC and built and operated a small TV station in Enid, OK for a time. In the 1980’s to early 1990’s, Doug and his friend Steve Littrell produced TV interviews for Ben & Butch McCain’s Morning Show on KOCO Channel 5 here in Oklahoma City and for Entertainment Tonight including many stars such as Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Sam Elliott, Randy Travis, Ronny Cox, as well as aired many TV commercials for various clients over the years. We as a family produced many aired TV commercials, Memorial videos for loved ones and much more. His true passion was making sure we; his family were happy and safe.
We were so proud to be blessed with Chris, Jon and Ben, our 3 handsome, healthy and intelligent sons. They surround me now with safety and comfort.
From Son Jon~We gathered April 3rd and honored mine and my brother’s father, who meant so much to me. We reflected on who he was, what he stood for, and the legacy he leaves behind. A beloved father, son, cousin, uncle and man who shaped the lives around him with strength, humor, and love.
My dad was the kind of man you don’t fully understand the impact of until you step back and realize how much of who you are came from him. He stood for strength, integrity, and doing things the right way—even when it wasn’t easy.
If I become even half the man he was, I’ll consider my life well lived.
He will always be a part of me. As we laid his body to rest that day, with heavy hearts—but also with gratitude for the man he was.
From your loving, Rena, Chris, Jon and Ben… "Your struggle is over Dad. We knew when your bodily strength was absent and your spirit broken, that you were looking to your Lord Protector for comfort.
We shall hold hands again. Goodnight Mighty King!"
~A few loving messages below from family and friends ~
Dear Rena, Chris, Jon and Ben,
Steve and I can't imagine what you've endured, but we know your love for Doug was unwavering throughout every challenge. Letting him go was an act of compassion and dignity. From Nancy~~Just the other day, Steve was telling me how he met Doug. Steve was working at Channel 5 and Doug at Thompson Book & Supply. Steve went to a friend’s house to dub some movie tapes, and that’s where he met Doug. They soon discovered they shared so many common interests, and that was the start of a 50-year friendship. That kind of connection is rare, and it speaks to the kind of person Doug was—someone who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
We're thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers.
-Steve and Nancy
~Memories of Doug King~
There are men whose love becomes the heartbeat of a family, steady and strong. He was one of those rare souls, a devoted husband to Rena and a proud father to Ben, Jon and Chris - a man whose life was defined not by grand gestures, but by the quiet, unwavering way he showed up for the people he loved.
He was the kind of husband who made Rena feel safe, supported, and truly seen, their life together was built on partnership, laughter, and a deep, steady love that doesn't fade with time, that love is still here~~in every memory, every shared story, every moment he helped shape.
To his sons, he was a teacher without needing a classroom. He taught them strength through example, kindness through action, and resilience through the way he faced life. Ben carries his steadiness, Jon carries his heart, Chris carries his spark, and, together, they carry his legacy ~~ not as a burden, but as a blessing.
Grief comes because love was real. Deep, life-shaping. And, while ache is heavy now, it will soften. What will remain is the warmth of a good man’s life ~ a husband who loved with his whole heart and a father who gave his sons the best parts of himself.
May Rena, Ben, Jon and Chris and comfort in knowing that he lives on in them ~ in their strength, their compassion, their courage, and the bond they share, his story continues through them, and his love will always be a part of their home.
-Linda
