Janie Marie Williams-Jones celebrated her first Christmas in Heaven on Sunday, December 25, 2016, at the age of 68. Janie was born June 9, 1948 in Oklahoma City to Richard and Betty Rose Swanson. She married Mike Williams on January 14, 1966 and they had two children: Shawn and Patrick. Janie had a love for life, family, friends, and adventure. She had a diverse group of friends, from Victory Church/Bible Study, to friends who danced and partied into the night while enjoying great music. Janie never met a stranger, as people were drawn to her beautiful smile and caring heart. People wanted to be around Janie—she had a charm that drew them in and she adopted many as part of her family, and vice versa. During her 17-year career at Hertz, she earned an associate’s degree in Computer Science and Management from OSU-OKC. After retiring from Hertz, her strength and will persevered over her medical conditions as she continued to enjoy life. Her zest for life included travel, caring for new husband Max and their pets, watching OSU and OU football and Oklahoma City Thunder, and sitting in her new Jacuzzi. She loved entertaining her family and friends with a good glass of wine, driving to Texas to visit Shawn, and enjoying more mom/daughter time with Shawn and the Jacuzzi.
Janie was non-stop! Her recent adventures included zip lining, white-water rafting, visiting her stepbrother in Pensacola Beach, FL, and seeing her late cousin Gail’s son (Cole) graduate with his master’s degree in Colorado, where Janie was able to visit the Stanley Hotel and enjoy the thrilling ghost tour. If an adventure required removing her oxygen, Janie would remove it and keep going, then catch her breath later. The adventure was always worth it! Janie is survived by her husband, Max Jones; devoted daughter, Shawn Marie Williams (Rebecca Stroud); father, Richard Swanson (Barbara); brothers, David (Tracy) and Patrick (Angela). She is also survived by numerous brothers & sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews, plus many ‘chosen’ family members. Janie was greeted in Heaven by her first husband, Michael ‘Mike’ Francis Williams, son Patrick Michael Williams, mother Betty Rose Malan, and a very large group of other family members and beloved pets.
Saying farewell is never easy, especially when we lost someone as beloved as Janie. Know that the ones who love us never really leave us: You can always find them in your heart.
Our earthly loss is certainly Heaven’s gain.
