Jay Paul Cannon, M.D., returned to the Lord on April 23, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 84. He was born to John Paul and Romine Goodwin Cannon on June 30, 1937, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Jay grew up in Fox, Oklahoma where he graduated from Fox High School in 1955. He attended the University of Oklahoma, was in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band four years, including two National Championships and graduated in 1959. Jay commissioned as an officer in the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam as an intelligence officer. He returned to Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine in 1970. He then completed his Surgical Residency at OU Medical and Johns Hopkins. He dedicated his career to service, performing surgery for over 30 years in Oklahoma and retired from medicine to become the medical director for the Oklahoma Worker’s Compensation Court. He travelled the world and enjoyed studying theology and politics. Jay was a member of All Soul’s Episcopal Church for the past 40 years.
Jay is survived by his son, John Paul Cannon and his wife, Megan; his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Jack, Holden and Faith Cannon; his cousin’s Chuck Chapman and his wife Sara, and Eleanor Safely; and a great number of other dear friends and family.
A service to honor the life of Jay will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at All Soul’s Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. All are welcome to join and celebrate the life of Jay Paul Cannon.
