Midwest City, Oklahoma. Jerry was born August 24, 1938 in Elk City, Oklahoma to John and
Viola Vermillion. Jerry graduated from Elk City High School in 1956. While in high school,
Jerry played baseball and basketball. He then joined the Navy where he was stationed in Seattle
for his enlistment. After serving our country, Jerry worked for IBM and was a pioneer in the
computer science industry. Jerry demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit by opening his own
computer business, OKC Data Services. Jerry finished out his professional career and eventually
retired from Oklahoma County.
Jerry was an avid coin collector and enjoyed educating his family about the value and
rarity of everyday currency. While not much of a gambler, Jerry loved to handicap horse races.
That was mostly derived of his love of horses, as evidenced by the pleasure he took from old
“Western” movies and novels. Jerry was also an avid bowler and enjoyed the many trips taken
and leagues competed in with his friends and family. His daughters often joke that they were
raised in the bowling alley. Jerry was a big sports fan and relished the OU Sooners. Jerry passed
that love along to his kids and grandchildren! BOOMER!!
Jerry's favorite vacation was the trip that he took with his wife and two daughters all the
way to California in the summer of 1986 for a national bowling tournament. They stopped at
nearly every wide spot in the road on the trip west. Their vacation was filled with treasured
memories of The Grand Canyon, The Painted Dessert, Carlsbad Caverns, Death Valley, Knotts
Berry Farm and Disney Land.
The thing that Jerry felt was his crowning achievement in life was his two daughters, four
grandchildren and two great grandchildren! Jerry was a great man, great friend and the best
Dad a child could hope to have!
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents (John and Viola); his brothers (Cliff, Curtis,
Tunk and TJ); his sisters (Betty Mincher and Joy French). Jerry was also preceded in death by
his oldest daughter Jennifer. Jerry wore a bracelet that never left his wrist, to honor her
memory. The family takes great peace in knowing that Jerry can be reunited with his daughter
and other family members we know he missed so dearly.
Jerry is survived by his daughter (Holly Vermillion), his grandchildren (Charley Daniels,
Jacob Daniels, Kaylee Daniels and Jevan Easterwood), his great grandchildren (Abby Daniels
and Jacksyn Daniels), his brother (Jim Vermillion and wife Barbara), and many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Jerry was one of those very special people that rarely spoke ill of anyone else and it would
be challenging to find anyone that would speak ill of him. He was dearly loved by all that knew
him and will be missed greatly on a daily basis!!
A memorial service for Jerry will be held Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
