Joan Marie Smith

Joan Marie Ewinger Smith (83) died November 12, 2013 in Oklahoma City. She was born December 20, 1929 in Burlington, Iowa to William F. and Marie (Weinrich) Ewinger, where she graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic High School. She received a B. A. degree in business from Marycrest (Iowa) College in 1952 and was employed by the Girl Scouts of America in Burlington from 1965 to 1973. She moved to Oklahoma City to work for the Boy Scouts of America from 1974 to 1980 and married Glen Smith on December 21, 1974. Survivors include four nephews and one niece in Iowa; stepdaughter Glenda Brence of Oklahoma City; stepson Michael Smith and wife Rita of Manhattan, Kansas; stepson Kevin Smith and wife Beth of Oklahoma City; six step grandchildren, and eight great-step grandchildren. Her parents, her husband and a brother, James Ewinger, preceded her in death.

A visitation and prayer service will be at 7pm, Thursday, November 14, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 8701 NW Expressway. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am, Friday, November 15, at the Church of the Epiphany of the Lord, 7336 W. Britton Road, Oklahoma City, with burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Church of the Epiphany of the Lord.
