John Wayne Davidson peacefully entered into eternal rest January 15, 2011, with family by his side in Oklahoma City.
Wayne was born Wednesday, August 1, 1928 in Weleetka, Oklahoma to Carl Linzey and Ferrell Francis Davidson. When he was about 10 years old his family settled in Wetumka, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school, after which he attended both Wetumka Junior College and East Central State College.
He began working as a bookkeeper for the Bank of Commerce and remained there for two years before being drafted into the Korean War which he proudly served from 1950-1952.
In 1957 he met his soul mate Myrna Primmer while working at a bank in Snyder, Oklahoma. They married on June 15, 1958 marking the beginning of a 52 year journey together. They had two children Sherri and Doug.
After serving as senior examiner with the Oklahoma State Banking Department for 15 years, he served as president of Shepherd Mall State Bank in Oklahoma City, and CEO of Merchants and Farmers State Bank in Weatherford, Texas.
Eventually, Wayne and Myrna moved their family back to Oklahoma City and opened two floral shops ~ Warr Acres Florist and Davidson’s Florist in Cassidy Square before returning to Dallas where they remained for 20 years while Wayne worked for Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home and Myrna held a position at J. P. Morgan Chase Bank.
In 2006, Wayne and Myrna returned to Oklahoma City to be nearer to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, being a loving husband, devoted father and best Peepaw and Great Peepaw (G.P.) ever! He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. We are so thankful for the lessons he taught and the lives he touched throughout the years along with his wit and laughter and his memory will remain forever in our hearts.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Carl; and grandson, Corbin Wayne; he is survived by his wife Myrna; daughter Sherri and her husband J. Douglas Scherf; son Doug; half brother Roger Davidson; grandchildren: Ferrell Robertson and her husband Bobby, Parker Scherf and his fiancée Aubree Smith, Zachary Scherf, Nathan Scherf, and Cassidy Lynch; great grandchildren: Skilar Louise Gayle Robertson and William Robert (Buck) Robertson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Baptist Memorial Center (BMC) Telemedicine Fund, 3030 N.W. Expressway, Suite #1600, Oklahoma City, OK 73112 (In memory of John Wayne Davidson should be noted in the memo or with the contribution); flowers may be sent to Guardian West Funeral Home, 5820 N.W. 41st, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6pm until 8pm.
