

John Robert Donnell was born in McLoud, Oklahoma and graduated from Central High School. He spent four years in the Navy serving in Guam and the Korean War. John reported to the destroyer Samuel E. Moore DD747 in the 7th fleet. After four years with the Navy, he came home a 3rd Class Petty Officer. John and Norma Lee were blessed with 48 years together. After his military service, John went to work for the Oklahoma City Police Department. He was a motorcycle officer for eight years. He earned an associate degree in Police Science from OSU and was promoted to detective. In 1980, he retired as a Field Commander Captain from the Department with 28 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and Shriner belongign to the Oklahoma City Lodge #36. John spent many years flying kites with the Oklahoma Kiters team and the AKA Kiters Association. John was preceded in death by his wife Norma Lee in 1997 and his son Rick Donnell in 1984. He is survived by his two sons Steve Donnell, Mark Donnell and wife Shirley; seven grandchildren, Tricia Engelbert, Richard Allen Donnell, Cindy Diehl, Nick Donnell, Justin Donnell, Loree Donnell, Sean Donnell; and 10 great grandchildren, Emily Engelbert, Sophie Engelbert, Dutch Engelbert, Aiden Donnell, Grace Donnell, Joy Donnell, Reece Donnell, Jared Donnell, Logan Brownen, Ryan Brownen. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015, in the chapel at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper with military honors at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery.
