Juanita Cooper Hassell was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, daughter, and sister, who died early Valentine’s Day in Oklahoma City with her daughter, Peggy, at her side. Juanita was 91 years old, and had celebrated a very happy birthday party in Oklahoma City with many family and friends in attendance. Juanita and her husband, Carlton Lee Hassell, a longtime Conoco employee who died in 1986, were charter members of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Ponca City. She also loved and adored the many friends she made later in life at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, where they moved after Carlton retired. Juanita was a very quiet and unassuming person who dearly loved her family and gave her all when she was needed. She was born in Vivian, La, in 1919, married Carlton in 1937, and talked of Carlton every day since his death. Juanita is survived by her three children, James A. Hassell, M.D., and his wife, Maria, of Chatom, AL, Peggy L. Jewell, M.D., and her husband Eddie, of Edmond, and Perry L. Hassell, Ph.D., and his wife, Tamra, of Ponca City. Also surviving Juanita are her fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and loving nieces, nephews, and others in Corpus Christi and around the world. Juanita was a loving and giving person who made the world better. She will be missed. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 16, at the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7801 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, at 11am. Arrangements under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, Oklahoma City, OK.
