On June 14, 1968, Judy married William Gerald Ticer and they shared twelve years and two wonderful children together: Bryan and Jennifer.
Judy attended Putnam City Schools for 12 years graduating in 1964. She received her degree from OSU in Elementary Education and thus began her life long love for OSU. She was an avid Cowboy football fan and never missed watching the games. She received her Master’s Degree from OU in 1982, as a Reading Specialist.
After graduating from OSU, she began her teaching career in Lawton, and later in McAllister, Oklahoma before returning to OKC and teaching at Rollingwood Elementary in Putnam City Schools. In her second year at Rollingwood, she was named Teacher of the Year. In addition, she was honored several years in the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Besides her teaching, she was active in the International and State Reading Councils, and became a sought after presenter for educational and reading techniques throughout the state. Judy’s passion in life was teaching. She touched the lives of each of her students in a very special way, as shown by the multitude of letters she received from her former students, even after their graduation.
Judy loved working in her flower gardens, reading, spending time outside in the sunshine, and being with her family. She was happiest when her house was full of family, including her grandsons and great granddaughter.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents and brother Johnnie Deckard and wife Pat Deckard.
She is survived by her son Bryan Ticer and his wife Rachel of Edmond, OK; daughter Jennifer Nickell of OKC, OK; cousin/best friend/sister all-in-one Patricia Lessly and husband David Lessly; sister-in-law Brenda Rehkop of Lawton, OK; grandchildren Wyatt Ticer and wife Hannah, Seth Ticer, Dylan Nickell and wife Kylee; one great granddaughter and four nephews.
Judy was an incredible loving person, always doing for others in a quiet humble way. Her faith was evident in her actions and love for others. She had the ability to know what you needed and to help without ever being asked. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and will be remembered for always having a funny story to share.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 27th from 5 pm-7 pm.
A service to honor Judy’s life will be Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2 p.m., in the chapel at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
