Karen Sue Wallis passed away Monday morning at her home. She was a lifelong native of Oklahoma and loved her state. Karen led a long and vibrant life. She met and married the love of her life at 17. She became the mother of 4 children, which was her dream. She participated in all school activities and was the best Homeroom Mom, Chorus Mom, Softball Mom, Luther League Mom, Any Holiday Mom and Chauffeur. She was known far and wide for her baking skills. Her legacy will continue in her children and grandchildren. As her children grew, she became an avid bridge and mahjong player. Her "bridge girls" were her best friends. She loved them all. She truly valued the last 2 years as they accommodated her so kindly.
Karen also loved to travel. Her favorite destinations always had Mountains or Ocean. She was adventurous and always ready to explore. She and her husband have passed the adventurous spirit to all their children. Karen will be missed for many reasons. She had strength to meet any challenge, courage to overcome life's hurdles, love to share with everyone, generosity to give to those less fortunate, and she would do anything for family or friends in need. She has overcome her last battle and been granted freedom from Aspergillus and its devastating effects which ultimately took her life.
Karen leaves behind her other half, Henry Wallis, the man she treasured and loved like no other for over 55 years. They laughed, cried, danced and showed their children true love. She leaves four children and their families: Melodie Rayburn, Michael Wallis, Lisa Wallis and Laura Judd. She leaves her 2 sisters and families who she loved to the moon and back: Nancy Samuelson Cook, John Cook, Jason and Robin Cook, Trudy Samuelson Moore, Andy Moore and Mathew Moore. She leaves behind her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom made her life sweeter. She loved each one of them for the individual they are: Jennifer Rayburn Lane, Kyle Rayburn, Erin Rayburn, Megan Judd, Abigail Judd, Samantha Judd, Justin Wallis, Nicholas Wallis, Katie Wallis, Olivia Lane, Drake Lane, Rebecca Wallis, Nathan Wallis, Walker Rayburn and Rowen Rayburn.
She was received by her family who preceded her in death: her parents Henry G. Samuelson and Ruth Ann Samuelson and her two beloved nephews Brian Nicholas Cook and Taylor Samuelson Cook.
She would want those who read this to remember the beauty in this world amidst all the fear and hate. She longed for a more peaceful world. Love yourselves and your family and friends. Treat others with kindness. I believe she would say, live by the Golden Rule. Be part of something bigger than yourself.
A very special thank you for those who took time out their lives to visit, cheer and befriend her these past 17 months. She saw only the best in humanity and it filled her heart with wonder that others could be so kind to her.
Services for Karen will be held Saturday, June 25th at 10:00 am Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the scholarship of her nephews to support higher education would be appreciated: Cook Memorial Scholarship, c/o Billings Education Foundation, 415 N. 30th St., Billings, MT 59101.
