As a lifelong hard worker, Leon served 23 years in the Air Force, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in several locations, including Guam, Africa, Japan, and Oklahoma. After retiring from the Air Force, Leon started his second career in the civil service at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma. After 24 years, Leon retired from the civil service.
Leon was a person who was always moving and preferred the outdoors. He loved fishing and camping. Leon and his wife Jo, would road trip all over the country, often with family. They especially enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. When not driving their RV, Leon could be found at home in the garage or outside, always building or improving things around the house.
Quick to smile and laugh, Leon always had the perfect colloquialism for any situation, such as "fits like socks on a rooster" or "madder than a wet hen." He always had advice to give, like "they put on their pants in the morning the same way you do - one leg at a time."
