

Lila “Go Go” Porter, age 81 died Wednesday, December 29, at her home in Bethany, Oklahoma. She was born January 30, 1929 in Adams, Massachusetts to Joseph and Victoria Jyrus, Polish immigrants. After she left school, she worked in the Berkshire Mill, in Adams, as a loom operator. She met her future husband, John who was working for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company in Adams. After their honeymoon, they lived a short time in Brooklyn, New York where she worked as a bank teller. The couple moved to Oklahoma where they made a home in Bethany and raised their son Michael. She worked for William “Bill” Berry the County Attorney until John’s graduation from law school in 1959. She was active in the Ladies Bar Auxiliary and other organizations. In her later years she was active in her Kingdom Hall witnessing to people on the phone. She was also an ardent Oklahoma State University fan. She did not miss many games. She would attend the games, listen to the “Pokes” on the radio or watch them on TV. She was preceded in death by her husband John, sisters Nellie, Dora, Stella, and Gladys, brother Theodore and her parents Joseph and Victoria. She is survived by her son, Michael, grandson Matthew and his wife Deanne, great-grandsons Ethan and Jacob, grandson Christopher and granddaughter Laura all of Yukon. She leaves behind a large multitude of friends in the Kingdom Hall and numerous relatives. She will be missed.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Guardian West Funeral Home, 5820 NW 41st Street, Warr Acres, Oklahoma. Interment to follow in Bethany Cemetery, Bethany, Oklahoma.
