Theodora “Loula” Karountzos (née Papahronis) was born on January 28, 1928, in Tripolis, Greece, to Athanasios and Evangelia Papahronis. She was the eldest of three daughters and was lovingly known as “Loula” throughout her life.
After graduating from high school, Loula enrolled in a homemaker's school where she learned valuable skills such as sewing and baking—talents she carried with her throughout her life and generously shared with family and friends.
In 1953, she married the love of her life, Paul Karountzos. Together they built a beautiful life and, in 1956, immigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities. Loula and Paul became co-owners of Cadet Cafeteria in downtown Oklahoma City, where she truly enjoyed working and meeting people from all walks of life. Her warm smile and welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Loula was deeply devoted to her faith and was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church for nearly 70 years. Her strong belief in God guided her daily life. She joyfully baked for the annual Greek Festival and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She also supported her husband, Paul, in their “bakaliko,” a Greek dry-goods store that is part of the festival yearly.
After retirement, Loula and Paul cherished their summers spent with family in their hometown of Tripolis, Greece, reconnecting with loved ones and the place where their story began.
In her later years, Loula enjoyed extended stays in Chicago with her daughter, Georgia, and her family, creating treasured memories filled with love, laughter, and togetherness.
Loula will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering faith, devotion to family, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her daughter Georgia Londos (George); Daughter Angela Fokas (James); grandchildren Tommy Londos (Georgia); Paul Londos, Teddi Fokas, Evi Fokas and great grandson's Geo, Niko and baby Londos on the way.
