Lylous was born on May 8, 1925 in Oklahoma City to Robert Earl and Elizabeth Jane (Owens) Webb. She attended Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City graduating with the class of 1942. Shortly after graduation she married William “Orville” Burns. Lylous soon relocated from OKC to LA to be near her husband while he was at boot camp. While living in Oakdale, LA she worked in ad sales for a local publication. Soon after, Orville went to war and Lylous put herself through business school to help provide for her family. Orville came back after several years in the service and soon the couple added three wonderful children to their lives: William Orville Jr, Cheryl Jeanne, and Debra Janis Burns. In the mid 1940’s she accepted a job working as a secretary for Douglas Aircraft which is now Tinker Air Force Base. She spent much of the 1950’s working as an executive secretary at Kerr-McGee Oil. Orville played the fiddle in a square dance band and Lylous would attend the square dance and dance while he played. In 1959, the family relocated to Albuquerque, NM when she worked at a local law office.
In 1961, Lylous and Orville moved to Wichita Falls, TX where she spent 4 years working as a secretary at the Perkins Oil Company. A decade later she married Bartow Riley, the President of the Texas Fiddlers Association where she was employed as secretary of the Association. Lylous and Bartow hosted and entertained countless world renowned musicians including Johnny Gimble. They spent much of their time using their industry influence to arrange for accomplished musicians to play at Fan Fair in Nashville, TN. Lylous and Bartow spent 40+ years living in Childress, TX where they owned a TV shop and a large pecan orchard. Her health began to decline and from 2007 to 2015 she lived with each of her daughters, time that they each remember fondly and cherish. In 2015, she relocated to Norman where she resided at Grace Living Center until her passing.
Lylous was a sweet and selfless woman who loved to entertain and feed others. Her homemade pecan pie, which was always made with the pecans from her orchard, was certainly the best around. She enjoyed tending to her garden where she grew wonderful fresh vegetables from which she made the best hot sauce ever tasted. Lylous enjoyed traveling all over the nation, oftentimes dropping by to see her fiddle playing friends. Lylous was a kind and caring woman who will be remembered by her family for her welcoming and accepting spirit, as well as the unconditional love she offered to those she cherished.
Lylous was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Earl and Elizabeth Jane (Owens) Webb; sister, Norma Koch; brothers: Bobby Webb and Barney Webb; and great granddaughter, Megan Dill.
She is survived by children: Orville Burns and wife Trudy, Cheryl Dill and husband Ronald Sr., and Debbie Wright and husband Ron; Niece, Paula Van Syckle; grandchildren: Steve Dill, Jo Anna Dill, Becky Acree, Jimmy Burns, Kathy Peaslee, Ronald Dill Jr., Kimberly Robinson, Shelly Garretson, Heather Dodson, and Dustin Serratt, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
