Marjorie Marj Jayne Kirch

Marjorie (Marj) Haddad Kirch, died on May 16, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., to Mitchell and Hazel Haddad. Marj attended Greenbrier Womens’ College and Washington University in St. Louis.

Marj began her career in Oklahoma in 1954. Perhaps best known as “Miss Jane,” Marj created, produced and starred in several childrens’ shows on what is now, KFOR-TV from 1954-1969. Most significant to her was “Sunday School,” which she created to give children who were unable to go to church an opportunity to be a part of God’s community through stories and music. It was her joy and her ministry. Marj had such a passion for children and gave much of her time actively serving on the Board of the March of Dimes.

Marj was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Duke. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Noel P. Kirch. Children: Judi and Dan Shelton of Edmond; Skip and Julie Hawkins; Vance and Beth Hawkins of Port Orange, Florida. Grandchildren: Lauren Shelton of Dallas, Texas; Ryan, Kacie, Jenna and Chris Hawkins of Port Orange, Florida. Additionally, she is survived by her extended family: Julia Huggins of Tulsa; Jim and Susan Abernathy of Oklahoma City; Noel S. Kirch of Charlotte, N.C.; as well as grandchildren, Kari and Jon Alley – Melchior, Jane Huggins of Tulsa and Meagan and Kristina Abernathy of Oklahoma City.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, May 21, 2012 at All Souls Episcopal Church.
