Martha Jo Crable Greenamyer Jordan, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother who lived a full and blessed life, died September 20th. She was born in Oklahoma City on September 18, 1927 to A.L. and Claudia Crable and attended Central High School. She went to Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri and earned a degree from Oklahoma State University. She married Don Greenamyer in 1949 and lived in Washington D.C., New London, Seattle, Guam and New Orleans, as his Coast Guard assignments required. Following his untimely death in a helicopter crash in 1958, Martha Jo returned with their three children to Oklahoma City, her home for the remainder of her life. In 1962, she married Bill Jordan, who had lost his wife Terry at the early age of 32, leaving him with their two children, Cindy and Jeff. Bill and Martha Jo successfully blended their two families, and enjoyed a wonderful 43-year marriage.
Martha Jo had a thirst for knowledge, was an enthusiastic reader and constantly strived to be conversant about current events. Always the consummate hostess and cook, the Jordan home was frequently filled with family and friends. She impressed her loved ones with her intense interest in their lives and activities whether through intimate conversations or via Facebook. JoJo, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, possessed strength and courage throughout her life, faced, embraced and taught her family how to deal with life’s many challenges. Her final challenge, a cancer diagnosis, was met with bravery and acceptance.
After her youngest two children started college, she began working for the state legislature, first with the Senate and then retiring from the House of Representatives. She was a docent at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and a long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Her parents, brothers Lawrence and Henry Bennett Crable, husbands Don Greenamyer and Bill Jordan, preceded her in death. Survivors include her five children Don Greenamyer of Sydney, Australia, Cindy Jordan Ballard and Janet Greenamyer Muller, both of Oklahoma City, Lynn Greenamyer Mills of Edmond, and Jeff Jordan of Fairhope, Alabama, their spouses, Hilary, Robert, Billy, and Becky, nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Martha Jo Jordan’s life will be celebrated Wednesday, September 24th at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or the Kenny Can Foundation.
