Mary Jo was born in Oklahoma City on September 24, 1924. Although she had a BS in Zoology from the University of Arkansas, she was one course away from having masters in chemistry.
Mary Jo was married to W.R. Martin and they were married nearly 40 years until his death on April 22, 1995.
Mary Jo worked as a pediatric lab technician for Bone and Joint Hospital for a number of years. She also assisted her husband off and on as an office manager in his dentistry practice in Midwest City. Although she would put down “housewife” as her profession, she really spent only a few years in this occupation, when the children were young. She enjoyed oil painting so much that she eventually began to teach and spent many years teaching oil painting at Rose State College until she was unable to drive at the age of 89. She was also actively involved in the Church at St. Christopher’s helping in various ministries and really enjoyed taking people communion to those that could not get out to church.
Mary Jo is survived by her two sons, Bill and Paul plus grandchildren Alexander, Lauren, and Candice Martin, plus other family and friends.
Memorial donations may be given to Operation Smile to help children with a cleft pallet because every child suffering from cleft lip or cleft palate deserves exceptional surgical care. Flowers may be offered at St. Christopher’s. or at the Funeral Home.
