

Mary Helen (Harper) Powers was born on September 4, 1927 in Fort Worth, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. and Alta M. Harper and husband John L. (Jack) Powers. Jack and Mary were married for 49 years when he passed away October 2002.
Mary is survived by two children, Patricia L. Murphy and husband Patrick of Oklahoma City and Robert G. Powers of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Shaun and William Murphy, Deborah Archer of Oklahoma City, Diana Harlan of Midwest City; four great grandchildren, Hailey, Cameron, Paige and Skye Murphy; three cousins, Warren Ward of South Lake, TX, Wendell Ward of Fort Worth, TX and Noblee Adams of Cleburne, TX.
She lived her first year in Fort Worth and then nine years in Dallas before moving to Lake Charles, LA and graduated from Lake Charles High School in the Class of 1944 and attended McNeese Jr. College for two years and attended University of Kansas and came back to LSU and graduated in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in English and Art.
She pledged Delta Gamma in 1948 at LSU and enjoyed meeting and working with alumna groups wherever they lived. She was a member of the Oklahoma City Delta Gamma for 35 years and served as Delta Gamma Representative to the Greater Oklahoma City Panhellenic and held several offices and served as president and accepted the offer to join PEO Chapter AY in Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1970 and Chapter EW in Oklahoma City. She also was a member of the Briarcreek Neighborhood Garden Club and her Friday Friends.
She had been a Realtor since 1969 and a member of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Board of Realtors for many years. She opened their real estate office under Jack Powers, Inc. in 1976 and purchased a Century 21 franchise after that. Their final company was Century 21, A NorthWest Realty which sold in 2000 and they retired.
Mary’s service will be held at Putnam City Baptist Church, 11401 N. Rockwell, Oklahoma City, on Friday, September 1st at 10 a.m. and interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 N.W. Expressway.
