Melvin Leroy Campbell , 88, of OKC passed from this life on Jan. 23, 1931 in South Oklahoma City, OK. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service and a service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, Jul. 28, 2019 at2pm at the Advantage Funeral Chapel located at 7720 S Pennsylvania in OKC. Public visitation will be held on Monday from 9am to 1pm the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6-8pm that evening at the funeral home.
Melvin was born on Jan 13, 1931 in Norman, OK to Boyd and Mary (Pitt) Campbell. He graduated from Norman High School. Soon after graduation, Melvin joined the US Army where he served as part of a tank crew. In the early 1960’s, Melvin’s life changed when he met his beautiful wife, Pasty. In 1962, Melvin and Patsy were married and spent 56 wonderful yrs by each other’s side.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, Melvin relocated to OKC in the late 1950’s. He began a long career in facility management. He worked for Fred Jones in downtown for 18 yrs. He later accepted a position doing custodial work for Kerr-Magee and the Oklahoma Bar Associations. He retired in the mid 1990’s after making many wonderful friends at the places he worked.
Melvin was a kind and generous man who loved working on his rent houses, working on his car, and finding a good deal at a garage sale. Fishing was also a favorite past-time and he was also a member of the Bass Master. Melvin was a reserved man, but that didn’t keep him from enjoying racing his drag car at state and regional events.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Boyce Campbell, a daughter Dianna Jackson, and a son James Nichols. He is survived by his wife and best-friend Patsy Campbell; three grandkids: Melissa Cooper, Russell Cooper, Kacie Wilshire. He is also survived by eight great grandkids: Noah Figard, Ethan Figard, Ruel Cruzan, Lola Pace, Eli Pace, Nevaeh Young, Arianna Young, and Coy Young.
