NEALLA SUE CARBARY passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 88. Sue was born the third child of Willis P. Thornley and Ettie Irene McClaskey in Durant, Oklahoma on September 15, 1933.
Nealla Sue went to school at Central High School in Oklahoma City. After high school, she moved to California. She married David Warren Glynn in 1952 and they had two sons, David Warren Glynn, II and Gary Thomas Glynn who preceded her in death earlier this year. She later married James “Jim” Carbary and they had one daughter, Jami Sue Carbary. In 1989 she and her daughter moved to Jones to live across the street from her oldest sister, Josephine and her husband Leo William Goff.
Sue spent her entire career with the California telephone company, GTE working as a telephone operator and later, when the company opened up all jobs to both sexes, she retired as one of the first female lineman.
During her retirement in Jones, she and her sister did everything together – working their vegetable garden, playing cards, watching tennis, traveling with their cousin Maxine. In 2000, her life changed when her sister and cousin passed away. Soon after, her son David “Joe” moved to Jones. She opened her home to family and foreign exchange students and for a short while, she had a home day care. In 2011, she decided to move to St Ann’s Retirement Center where she lived and enjoyed all the aspects of Catholic living. She enjoyed mass daily, not having to cook, reading, playing card games and bingo (depending on the day). Her apartment was crowded with plants, and photos of her children and grandchildren. She had a very busy social calendar. Some days, she really didn’t have time to talk on the phone due to the fact, she was late for “Nickel, Nickel”. You learned to leave a message and she would get back with you.
Those of us who were lucky to be a part of her life are: Children David “Joe” Warren Glynn, II , his three children, Joseph, Taneya and Devin Glynn; ;Jami Sue Carbary, her two children, James Carbary (Lisa) and Marianne; three great-grandchildren and the most recent great -grandchild who she was able to meet was James and Lisa’s son, Jackson James. Her niece and nephews: Susan Goff Magill (Jerry), Darrell Thornley (Kim) and Dennis Thornley (Pam). Seven great nephews and eight great nieces as well as great-greats!
Those already waiting for her: her grandmother Ma, her parents, Willis P, Big Mama; her sister Jose and Uncle Bill, cousin Maxine, brother Darrell Sr. and Grace, son Gary, niece Sandra Lee, and nephew Michael Gene.
The family would like to thank Good Shepherd Hospice for their ongoing care and commitment to Sue during the final months of her life. She always had a smile for them. They were a true blessing to her and our family.
