

Neil McClure, 88, was born October 2, 1922, in Wayne, Oklahoma, to Elmer and Pearl McClure. He is a graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City University, earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Laura Alvalyn Stansell, on January 4, 1940. Neil loved his chosen profession of elementary school teacher and principal. After retirement from teaching, he was employed by and retired from the Oklahoma State Employment Commission. Predeceased by his parents, and his wife, Neil is survived by his daughter Beverly Pirtle and husband Bill; his daughter Kathy Whitwell, grandchildren, Lance Whitwell, Katie Peterson and Mike Hillerby; a son-in-law Mike Whitwell, and 6 great grandchildren. For the past five years Neil has resided at the Baptist Retirement Village of Oklahoma City, 9700 Mashburn Avenue, Oklahoma City, 73162. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to all the staff who have lovingly cared for him and made his stay there a comfortable home surrounded by friends. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Baptist Retirement Village of Oklahoma City.
