

ASLEEP IN JESUS
Raymond Frederick Fischer, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, 89, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed from this life, and is now with Jesus Christ.
Ray was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 27, 1921 to William and Adelle Reimler Fischer. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis, and remained a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Ray was a decorated World War II Navy veteran, serving his country from April 1942 until October 1945.
Ray married Eleanor Iezzi on February 24, 1945, and they remained married until her death on February 12, 2007.
Ray was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad Company of St. Louis Missouri from 1939 to1953, transferring with them to Oklahoma City in 1949. Kerr McGee Corporation hired Ray in 1953 as Assistant Traffic Manager, and he remained with Kerr McGee until 1985, retiring as Traffic Manager of the Central Division.
Ray was a charter member of Delta Nu Alpha transportation fraternity, and also served as President and Secretary of the Oklahoma City Transportation Club. Ray was also active in the Kerr McGee Retirement Club; the American Legion; and an active member of the Surrey Hills Lion’s Club, serving as Secretary for a number of years.
Ray was faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 62 years, serving as Elder; Trustee; Congregational Vice-President; Financial Secretary; Sunday School Superintendent; Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader. He was also a Board Member of Concordia Life Care Center, where he resided the last 6 months of his life. The family would like to extend its sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Concordia Skilled Nursing and Good Shepherd Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Ray.
Ray loved and played many sports through out his life; basketball, baseball, softball, bowling and golf were among his favorites. He also enjoyed attending OKC Blazer hockey games, OU football games, as well as traveling to St. Louis to see his beloved Cardinals play baseball. Ray was always the life of the party, never knew a stranger, and was loved by all.
Ray is survived by daughter Barby James and husband David A. James of Oklahoma City; son Paul Alan Fischer and wife Tranna Fischer of Edmond, OK; granddaughter Shauna Marie Miller and husband Steve Miller of Brighton, CO; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Charnie, Matthew and Stevie; grandson Ryan Paul Fischer of Edmond; brother Ralph Fischer and wife Evelyn Fischer of Kansas City, MO and their three daughters, husbands and 4 children.
Visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK from 8am – 5pm Thursday and 8am – 8pm Friday, with the family receiving guests from 5pm -7 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1800 N.W. 36th, Oklahoma City, OK, Reverend Clinton McMullin officiating; burial following at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to either Lutheran Hour Ministries or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ray’s memory.
