Richard Elden (Dick), 94, of Oklahoma City, OK went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on June 26, 2019 after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Richard was born on December 19, 1924 in Oklahoma City to Hortense Cecelia Dwyer Hall & Horace Elden Hall. He attended Capitol Hill High School & graduated in 1943. After graduation, he spent some time developing his own carpentry business but then decided to enlist in the U. S. Army, where he served for 4 years. He told stories of how he helped build the Panama Canal during his time in the Army. After his discharge from the Army, he attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in business. He loved the climate so much in Panama that after the 4 years in the service and graduation from college, he decided to move from Oklahoma to a more similar climate, and he settled in San Antonio, TX. He worked for the U. S. Air Force in a civilian role at Kelly Air Force Base until his retirement in 1975. After retirement, he spent time gardening & traveling. He enjoyed growing all types of vegetables & flowers in his gardens and was especially proud of his pecan tree in the front yard, which he harvested most every year until he moved from his home in San Antonio in 2016 back to Oklahoma City to be closer to family. He was an active member of St Paul Catholic Church in San Antonio for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jane, one brother, Tom, and one sister-in-law, Shirley. He will be missed by many but in particular those family members who survive him: nieces Brenda Helmer (Dan) & Dana Rose (Dennis), & nephew Gregg Hall (Patti), great-nephews Danny Helmer, Joey Helmer, Josh Helmer, Bobby Rose, & Austin Hall; great-nieces Danielle Rose, Taylore Entz, & Caiti Hall. Family wishes to offer a special thanks to nurses & staff at Frontier Hospice & Rambling Oaks Courtyard for the wonderful care they provided to Richard for the past months. Visitation will be from 4-8pm Friday, June 28th, at Advantage Funeral Home located at 7720 S. Pennsylvania Ave in Oklahoma City. A graveside service will be held on Saturday morning, June 29th, at 9:00 am at Resthaven Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
