Robert Hernandez passed away peacefully, surrounded by those he loved most. Family was always at the center of Robert’s life — a guiding force that shaped his every decision and brought him the greatest joy.
Born and raised in Mexico, Robert was the son of Francisco Hernandez and Dora Alvarez. He was the second oldest of four siblings: his oldest sister, Bertha, and younger brother Francisco, and sister Linda Hernandez Alvarez. From an early age, Robert was a gifted athlete and a proud gymnast who traveled across the country performing in exhibitions. He also had a passion for baseball and boxing, and throughout his youth, he embraced sports as a way to challenge himself and connect with others.
One of the defining moments of Robert’s life came in 1968 when he served as an official for the Olympic Games held in Mexico City. Fluent in multiple languages, he assisted with translation, helping bridge communication and culture during a historic global event — a role he was deeply proud of.
After moving to Ohio, Robert met the love of his life, Betty, and started a family. Once his children were old enough to travel, the family moved to Mexico City, where Robert instilled a deep appreciation for tradition, unity, and faith. Every Sunday was sacred: church in the morning, followed by warm, laughter-filled gatherings with his siblings at their apartment. Those years — full of love, food, and shared stories — left a lasting imprint on his children.
In 1974, the family relocated to Dallas, Texas, settling into a close-knit, middle-class neighborhood where Robert continued to build a life rooted in family and quiet strength. Though he occasionally welcomed company, he always found the greatest peace and comfort in the presence of his family.
Robert is survived by his son Robert, his daughter Robbi and her husband Keith Snowden, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Rachel Snowden.
Robert’s legacy lives on in the values he passed down: love for family, pride in one’s roots, and the importance of showing up for each other — not just in the big moments, but in the everyday ones. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
A memorial mass for Robert will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Ann Retirement Community, 9400 St. Ann Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
