Dr. Sukman was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Port Arthur, Texas. He married Millicent Levin May 12, 1945. He attended the University of Texas and the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, Texas, graduating in 1946. He interned at Anchor Hospital, St. Paul, Minnesota from 1946-47 and was a Radiology resident at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio 1947-48. Dr. Sukman was the first Radiation therapy resident ever at MD Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas. He was a Captain in the United States Army at Camp Polk, Louisiana, 1950. In 1955, along with James Boggs, MD, he started Radiology Associates. When Baptist Hospital opened, he opened the radiology department and practiced Radiation Therapy in the hospital. Dr. Sukman was Past President of Baptist Hospital Medical staff, Past President of State Radiology Association. He also was the physicians representative to the Department of Human Services under Lloyd Rader for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Brenda and Hyman Sukman, sisters Mary Wagner, grandson Ari Blattstein, and nephew Joseph Karkowski.
Dr. Sukman is survived by his wife of 66 years Millicent Sukman, children Deborah Blattstein, MD and R. Randall Sukman, MD, grandchildren Ayelet Harris, Alexandria, and Samantha Sukman; great grandson Benjamin Harris, sister Edith Karkowski, nieces Beth Weitz and Rae Engel, nephew Milton Wager, and best loved dog Beau.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011, in the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel.
