

Robert William Waring, 85, was born June 9, 1929, in Bloomington, NE to Laurence Charles and Jessie Eleanor (Dunn) Waring. After moving several times as a child, he started grade school in St. Louis, MO, where his father was manager of an insurance agency there and later transferred to Oklahoma City. Bob graduated from Classen High School and subsequently attended one year at Oklahoma City University. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Geology in 1951. Thereafter, he enlisted in the Army. After going thru OCS at Ft. Sill's Artillery School, he served with the 25th Infantry Division in Korea. After being employed by the British American Oil Co. in February, 1954, he served 8 years in the Reserves, retiring with the rank of Major. He married JoAnn Bruton from Norman, OK in 1955. They enjoyed many years of travel including trips around the world and annual fishing trips to Alaska. Bob became an Independent Geologist in 1964. He also served as President of Equitable Royalty Corporation for 39 years. He was a member of the OKC and Ardmore Geological Societies, AAPG and SIPES, the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, the Elks Lodge and the Sportsman Club. He was also a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church for 56 years. Bob will always be remembered as a generous, kind, and very loving man. He had a quick wit and a joke for every occasion and he will be greatly missed by many people. His legacy will live on through all the lives he touched. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph in 1993 and his wife, JoAnn in 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Janice E. Waring Maloney and husband, Mike of Golden, CO and his son, Daniel K. Waring and wife, Susie of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jill E. Waring of Oklahoma City and Matthew R. Slanovich of Denver, CO and step-grandchildren, Kyle, Austin and Taylor Swabb of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Wyman of Denver, CO and Kerry, Lauren and Caitlyn Maloney of CO. He is also survived by his dear friend, Rita Moore. Services were held Wednesday, June 11, at 2pm at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
