Sharon Colleen Taylor fell asleep in Jesus, surrounded by family and friends, August 6, 2024 at the age of 77 years, 10 months, and 5 days. She was a faithful, warm, and caring mother, sister, and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Sharon was born October 1, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Orville Irvin Denning and Nelda Colleen Anderson. She was the first of three children and enjoyed growing up in a loving home frequently in company with extended family and friends. She attended Putnam City and Yukon schools and started college at Oklahoma University. With the exception of relatively short moves to Purcell and Yukon, Oklahoma as a child, she made OKC her home.
She married Robert Lee Eakins in OKC on February 6, 1966, and to this union were born two children, Robert “Scott” Eakins in 1968 and Wendy Colleen Eakins in 1971. The couple made their home in The Village until they moved to Warr Acres in 1978.
On May 6, 1997 in Port Isabel, Texas, Sharon married James Roy Taylor, whom she met earlier in their employment at Western Electric where she worked in the benefits department and he as the manager of the parts department. In 2000 they bought country property near Piedmont, OK where they lived the rest of their lives, enjoying time outdoors and with neighbors. There was always ample room in their home for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to come for visits, especially during extended Christmas breaks.
Sharon and Roy were members of Crossings Church in OKC where they attended regularly for many years with Wendy. She faithfully brought up Scott and Wendy to know and love God, a heritage that can never be repaid. She taught them to pray and have a personal relationship with Jesus. She opened many doors to get them involved in numerous organizations to help them to grow, such as Scouting, Camp Fire, band, and entries of their many arts, crafts, and baked goodies into the State Fair judging events. She taught them how to swim, ride bikes, enjoy trips to the zoo, love to read and play games, never forgetting to be a kid herself. She always kept them close to their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins with weekend visits and trips to the parks and lakes. She loved to sew, making clothes for Scott and Wendy as well as Kleenex box houses and casserole dish carriers to sell and give as gifts. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and often was involved in solos, duets, trios, and quartets with family and friends. She always made a big deal about every major holiday, decorating, baking, and making great memories with all. Roy and Sharon loved to travel (often with Wendy), especially to the western U.S. and always had hundreds of pictures to share and add to their photo albums. She and Wendy collaborated on scrapbooks showcasing their numerous adventures together as well as memories of generations gone by.
For nearly two decades, Sharon and Roy enjoyed square dancing with the Swinging Rebels, often involved with leadership roles and always being the life of the party. Sometimes they traveled to square dance meets and competitions with friends. They loved to invite others to join their club or stop in for a visit, encouraging them to take lessons and ensuring they had outfits to wear, hosting sewing parties in their home to make dance clothes.
Sharon has lived a full and rich life, and leaves a legacy of family to trace her steps. Preceding her in death are her parents Orville and Nelda Denning, husbands Robert Eakins and Roy Taylor, brother-in-law Michael Bergman, and niece Teresa Dyann Denning.
Left to both mourn her passing and celebrate her life, looking forward to reunion with her in the heavenly realm are her daughter Wendy Colleen Eakins, son Robert Scott Eakins (wife Tamara Lee and their daughter Meagan Colleen Norris (husband Jesse with her children Jared Scott Mizner and Aleena Colleen Mizner), and their three sons Nathanael Scott Eakins (girlfriend Sunni Lovell with her children Samuel and Sarah), Jeremiah Noble Eakins, and Josiah Benjamin Eakins), step-daughter Jennifer Malone (husband Kevin with sons Charlie Malone (Faith Craddock with their daughter Hazel) and Logan Malone (wife Cheyenne with their son Ryan)), sister Kathy Louise Bergman and her sons Erik Roy Berman (wife Lindsey) and Douglas Michael Bergman, brother Orville “Bruce” Denning (wife Kris and his daughters Desiree Megan Carter (husband James), Sybil Ann Carranza (husband Tadeo), and Krystal Beth Dotson (husband Leonard), as well as a host of extended family and friends who loved her so much.
Rev 14:13 Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours: and their works do follow them.
John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”
Come, Lord Jesus!
