Thelma Louise Rose was born in Calvin, Ok, January 17, 1924 to George and Ruth (Allen) Busby. Her childhood days were spent with her parents, three sisters, Hazel, Eunice, Maxine and three brothers, Roy, Herman and Howard. When she was a teenager they moved to Oklahoma City where she met and married Lloyd Bennett and then moved to Montana. During their years together two children, JoAnn and Dale, were born. Lloyd and Thelma divorced and Thelma returned to Oklahoma City. Later, she married Donald Rose and they settled in their home in south Oklahoma City. There she met many of her women neighbors who would become lifelong friends. She kept busy by being employed by several local restaurants.
Thelma’s dad passed away in June of 1977. Thelma moved her mother, Ruth, in with them. Her husband, Donald, passed away in October of 1978. Her sister, Eunice, had cancer and she went to stay with them until her death in 1980. Thelma loved her family and wanted to be with them and help them anyway she could. Thelma also loved her church family at the First Baptist Church of Del City and attended church services as long as her health allowed her to attend. Thelma remained in her home until a fall damaged her arm to the point that she couldn’t take care of herself.
She moved to the Pauls Valley Care Center in March of 2008 to be close to her family. She lived there almost six years. She enjoyed just relaxing, getting a lot of care, visiting with her neighbors, and watching her favorite cowboy movies on television. Thelma went to her eternal home October 15, 2014 at the age of ninety years and nine months. She is survived by her son, Dale Bennett; her younger brother, Howard Busby and a host of nieces and nephews and beloved friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N. Midwest Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK, 73141
