Thomas Lee Finney was born on June 9, 1948, in New York to Mildred and Herman "Tex" Finney. He grew up in Uniondale, NY where he graduated from Uniondale High School. Tom served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His military journey took him to Vietnam, then to Macon, Georgia, and finally to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
It was at Tinker that Tom met his love, Janet Abbott. They married and shared a devoted 48-year marriage. They welcomed two children: their son, Robert, and their daughter, Tiffany.
To provide for his family, Tom poured his energy and determination into building his successful business, Countertops by Tom. His son Robert played a key role in its growth and success, and the company became a testament to Tom's hard work, skill, and commitment over many years.
One of Tom's lifelong passions was his 1955 Pontiac, a project car from his teenage years. He sold the car to raise money, but Janet repurchased the vehicle for him. Tom and his father restored it together, turning it into a shared source of joy and pride. This beloved car connected Tom to car enthusiasts across Oklahoma and beyond. He participated in car shows throughout the state and country, and in 2019—following Janet's passing—he and his daughter, Tiffany drove the Power Tour, creating lasting memories.
Tom and Janet were long time members of Holy Cross WELS Lutheran Church. Tom loved his church and was Chairman of Property Management for many years.
In 2021, Tom reconnected with his childhood friend Lucy, and their friendship became love. He brought her from New York to Oklahoma, and they married the same year. Their time together was filled with adventure and fun. In 2023, Tom retired from the countertop business to travel the country with Lucy. They journeyed from coast to coast, embracing life fully and enjoying every moment.
Tom was an extraordinary man— a loving father, devoted grandfather, cherished husband, caring brother, proud uncle, supportive brother-in-law, faithful friend, and trusted confidant. His warmth, generosity, and kindness touched everyone who knew him, and everyone loved him.
He will be missed by his family, friends, and everyone whose life he brightened.
Tom is survived by his wife, Lucy; his sister, Diane & her husband Jim; his children, Robert & his husband Shawn, Tiffany, and Kamiel & her husband Wayne; his grandchildren, Hayden, Cameron & her fiancé Christian, Brynn, Sydney & her husband Sam; his great-grandchild, Sonny Joseph and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
