Tyler Julian Smith passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on June 22, 2025, at the age of 36. Born on August 28, 1988, in Oklahoma City, he was the beloved son of Dr. Ronald K. Smith and Pamela A. Smith.
Tyler spent part of his life in Allen, Texas, before returning to Oklahoma City in 2017. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Wherever Tyler went, music followed. Whether riding in his mom or dad’s car, the sounds of rap, R&B, hip-hop, or smooth jazz were always playing—his personal soundtrack to life.
Tyler appreciated life’s simple pleasures. His ideal day was spent outdoors with his children, soaking up the sunshine. One of his most treasured memories was his final Christmas, surrounded by his children, parents, and Lacie—a day he described as perfect.
A devoted father, son, and friend, Tyler was known for his vibrant spirit, infectious sense of humor, and his ability to light up any room. He was a natural teacher of joy, showing those around him how to laugh, have fun, and lead with love. He cherished his children and treasured every moment with family and friends. He could often be found laughing at his son RJ’s dancing, his mother’s driving, or joking with his cousins. He had a deep love for football, basketball, and watching golf with his dad. Family meant everything to Tyler. He especially loved spending time with his grandmother, watching classic shows like The Jeffersons, Sanford & Son, and In the Heat of the Night.
As a proud and loving father, Tyler embraced parenthood with his whole heart. His children adored him for who he was—present, playful, and full of love. He was also a devoted son and a man of quiet strength, often compared to “Superman.” He had a gift for fixing things and took pride in every job he completed.
Tyler worked as a construction electrician and found great satisfaction in his career. His children beamed with pride pointing out his holiday light work atop the First National Building in Oklahoma City. His contributions to the city and beyond include work on the Will Rogers World Airport Rental Car Expansion, Devon Tower, First National Building, Mercy Heart Hospital, UPS facility, and the Liberty Mutual Building in Dallas—among many others.
A man of faith, Tyler was baptized and a member of Quayle United Methodist Church and also attended Life Church with his family.
Tyler was preceded in death by his beloved son, Benjamin D. Smith (twin of Gianna T. Smith), of Oklahoma City.
He is survived by his parents, Dr. Ronald K. and Pamela A. Smith of Norman; his children, Blayke E. Smith and her mother Amber Smith of Yukon, and Gianna T. Smith, Royce J. Smith, and Boston R. Smith, along with Kimberly Imel and their mother Lacie Imel of Oklahoma City.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with inurnment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
