It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Paul Batt, 85, of Mcloud, OK, who went peacefully at home on May 7, 2025, to join the love of his life, Nora May, in Heaven. He was known as BillyPaul, Paul, Bill, Uncle Paul, Dad, and Grandpa. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, and cherished grandfather, known for his one-of-a-kind personality.
Born to Jessie W. Batt and Pearlie Paul Batt in Harrah, OK, on March 10, 1940. He grew up with his older brother Buddy roaming the town and countryside of San Miguel, CA, in 1949. He was a dedicated follower of Christ, baptized at Old Mission San Miguel in 1949. Before settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, he lived in many places in California.
He worked as a sheet metal worker in San Francisco for over 40 years. He worked on many buildings, including the Bank of America building, the tallest building west of the Mississippi upon completion in 1969. He also worked at Alcatraz Prison while it was still active as a prison. Because he worked with metal and files, he was required to have them measured upon entering and exiting the prison.
Bill was an honored U.S. Navy veteran who enlisted in 1960 and served as an aviation structural mechanic on the USS Lake Champlain. In 1961, this ship played a role in the first chapter of the U.S. outer space program by picking up Alan B. Shepard from Freedom 7, the first U.S. astronaut to fly beyond the Earth’s atmosphere.
He was an original fan of the San Francisco 49ers when they started playing at Kezar Stadium. He was also a fan of the San Francisco Seals (now known as the Giants).
His love of history and traveling took him on adventures all over the United States, Canada, Japan, China, and Thailand. While traveling, he was rarely without a fishing rod, rifle, or bow for hunting. Weekend adventures would find him crabbing and fishing in the San Francisco Bay.
In 1995, he retired to the original Batt homestead in McLoud. Prior to this, no one had lived on the property for many years. Not long after moving back to the red dirt he loved, he found and married the love of his life, Nora.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed being out on the farm, playing endless cribbage games with his daughter, all things Wile E. Coyote, riding motorcycles, and working on cars, trucks, and tractors.
Bill is survived by his daughter Pippa Dillman (husband, Todd), granddaughter Melissa Fibus (husband, Daniel), brother Buddy Batt (wife, Sondra), sister Karin Mendez (husband, Eddie), & countless nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Jamison Cemetery in McLoud, OK on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry or Hillside Baptist Church Food Pantry in his memory.
A visitation for William will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. A graveside service will occur Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Jamison Cemetery, 1030 S 3350 Rd, McLoud, OK 74851.
