William A. “Bill” Pitts was born to William Aubrey and Charles Lurlon Brown Pitts 4/13/1930 in Oklahoma City, OK. A 1948 Classen High School graduate, Bill honorably served in the Air Force 1950-1954 and graduated from Oklahoma A&M University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering where he was awarded the Outstanding Industrial Engineering Graduate Award.
Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alan and wife Linda Pitts, Bill is survived by his devoted wife of almost 59 years, Susan J. (Hartman) Pitts; and children Debra and Dan Casement, Oklahoma City, OK; David and Denise Weaver Pitts, Stillwater, OK; Dwight Pitts and Jeannie Barbour, Tulsa, OK. Also survived by grandchildren, Joe and Sandra Weaver, John and Nina Weaver, Geoffrey Barbour and great-grandchildren, Jaden, Josie, Elizabeth and John Jr.; Nieces Mary Jones, Cindy Bush and Diane Jackson; cherished friends Benny and Geneva Sisson and family (Traver, Weston, Chandra and JC) and numerous “adopted” family members and dear friends.
Bill approached life’s challenges with prayer, hard work, professionalism and methodical attention to detail. He was a man of integrity, humility, patriotic to his beloved country, deeply devoted to family, a faithful and generous man, who believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and eternal life in Heaven with Him. Bill, a Professional Engineer, member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Engineers) and PHCC (Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors of Oklahoma) opened the Johnson Service Company office in Little Rock, AR in 1960; moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for Gordon E. Ervin Company 1966-1970; R&B Equipment Company 1970-1976 and realized a life long prayer and desire in 1976 when he started Pitts Engineering Company and Bill Pitts Company, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed teaching Test and Air Balance, Math and Sunday school.
We will honor Bill in a private memorial and celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Salvation Army or your favorite charity in his name or to the William A. Pitts Scholarship Fund in Industrial Engineering at Oklahoma State University Foundation, 400 South Monroe, Stillwater, OK 74074.
The family is grateful and blessed to have many who contributed to the last few years of his life: Becky, Margaret, Edith, Kayla and Chandra, The CareTeam care providers, numerous physicians and health professionals, Deaconess Home Healthcare Agency caregivers and Crossroads Hospice. While Bill’s physical absence leaves a gap in our family circle, we are blessed to have had him as long as the Lord loaned him to us and find comfort in knowing he is no longer confined to his “earth suit” and his spirit is one with the Lord, his Savior, and loved ones who preceded him.
Arrangements under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, Oklahoma City, OK.
