William Richard Richardson, after 77 blessed years of life, departed this earthly life March 4, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Richard (nicknamed “Boo Baby”) was born February 4, 1947, in Hoffman, Oklahoma, to the union of William Andrew and Mae Lee Richardson.
Richard graduated from Dunbar High School, Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Following high school, Richard served in the military infantry with an honorable discharge attached with distinguished honors. These honors include the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device (1960), Combat Infantry with Badge, Distinguished Service Cross, Marksman Badge with Rifle & Automatic Rifle Bars, Sharpshooter Badge with Machine Gun Bar, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, and Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation.
After Richard’s transition from the military, his job entailed travels as a truck driver. Richard was an excellent and interesting writer of heartwarming poems exemplifying his military experience and journeys of life. He was a lover of the TV show Wheel of Fortune and western movies. Richard’s enthusiasm and joy of viewing Wheel of Fortune meant a time of non-communicating with family. If you called him at 6:30 p.m. during the airing of Wheel of Fortune, he would say “I’ll talk to you later.”
Richard’s parents, William Andrew and Mae Lee Richardson preceded him in this transition of life as well as one sister, Maggie Ruth Robinson, and three brothers, Elteen Watkins, Peter Watkins, and Henry Richardson.
Richard is survived by his son, Rodney Richardson and Lynette Richardson, daughter-in-law; Myles Richardson, grandson; Maxine Gresham, sister; Leetta Sanders, sister, and brother-in-law, Michael Sanders. Also, in remembrance are nieces & nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
