I met Charlie at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was always cheerful! Even if I was having a rough day, when Charlie smiled you couldn't help but feel better! Absolute pleasure to work with him!
My sincere condolences.

Marge and Dick,
I was so sorry to hear from Bill about the loss of your son. I know this must be very difficult, expecially in these times. Please take care of yourselves.

Although I did not know Charles personally, my prayers and comfort goes out to Margie, her Husband and family.

I know too well the pain, grief & sorrow of losing a child, but I also have come to know (in time) the healing powers of Grace, prayer and trust that brings beauty for the ashes and joy from the mourning, which is my prayer for your too.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. Make His face shine upon you and bring you peace.

Love, SarahGrace

It’s sad to hear Charley has passed. I met him though the music scene in Lawrence KS Aprox 2007-2010. He was a kind supportive artist who I last saw at the gaslight. He used to perform under the name Naomi What? And i first met him when Zach, Brad, and Charlie formed Bandit Teeth. I remember him cutting his finger after playing a solo acoustic set at the Gaslight. He has multiple songs named after him by our friend’s band Rooftop Vigilantes. You can find “Charlie Want Mario Chalmers” and “Charlie Want no Girlfriend” online. The time I knew Charlie in the mid to late 2000s was a special time, and his passing marks the end of an era in Lawrence where underground music had its last big moment.

Charley was a genuinely kind person with a creative mind and an infectious smile. Those he cared about were of paramount importance to him, and he unabashedly expressed his love for his friends and family loudly and often. He was one of a kind, and among my closest friends. To those who knew Charley, this loss is a heavy one. He will be sorely missed.

Jacqueline and I remember fondly the many times we spent in the company of Charley Downey. He was a persistently creative person with a great sense of humor and big heart. We send our condolences to his family and all of his friends.

I was trying to find a word to describe Charley . I am not a writer (and I do not have the talent of word play that he had) so I did the next best thing and looked up Synonyms for extraordinary: Amazing, bizarre, curious, exceptional, unusual, peculiar, particular, remarkable...rare. Rare. All adjectives are accurate, but rare he was. I saw him be witty and funny but serious and kind. Always there to listen, to comfort and offer a shoulder and wrap one in hugs. His mind was amazing. Conversations with him were intelligent, enlightening, informative, and sometimes just weird. He will be missed immensely.

I offer my sincerest condolences to his family and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Charley is a kind soul and friendly spirit. He always treated me with compassion and kindness, and I pray his friends and family find solace in the grace of his memory.
