Delores Jean Dell, 84, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 19, 2019. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend to everyone she met.
“Jean” as she was known by her family and friends was born on July 8, 1935 in Paola, Kansas to Ola Emery and Nellie Byrd (Hinman) Mooney. She attended South School and later graduated from Paola High School 1953. Growing up she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Paola where she started to sing in the church choir at the age of fourteen. She was always very active in any type of music. At the age of fifteen she started working at the Nicholson Drug Store until graduation.
She was united in marriage to Orville Clinton Jr. in June of 1953. The marriage later ended in divorce. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Paola. In April of 1973 Jean married Melvin Ray Dell and moved to the city of Olathe where she joined the First Christian Church on March 30, 1975. She worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for thirty years starting in Ottawa, Kansas and then retiring in June of 1996 in Olathe, Kansas. She was very active in her church, holding just about every office position, Secretary of the Board, Assistant Treasurer, Financial Treasurer and serving as Elder and Deacon. She will be sadly missed.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Ola and Nellie Mooney, grandson, Jeremy Clinton, great granddaughter, Layla Tacy and step-son David Dell . She is survived by her loving husband of forty six years, Melvin Ray Dell, three sons, Rod Clinton and his wife Pam, Rick Clinton, John Clinton, one daughter, Lori Clinton and step-daughter, Robin Dell - Johnson. Left behind to cherish her memory are her thirteen grandchildren: Shelly Clinton of Parker, KS., Jeanne Clinton of Parker, KS., Derick Clinton of Osawatomie, KS., Paige Walters of Parker, KS., Crystal Koelsch of Paola, KS., Joey Clinton of Paola, KS., Christopher “CJ” Clinton of Olathe, KS., Tiffany Card of Abilene, TX., Cody Finch of Abilene, TX., David Dell Jr. of Paola, KS., Debbie Dell of Paola, KS., Autumn Dell of Abilene, TX., and Dustin Dell of Abilene, TX., eighteen great grandchildren, Sheremie “Jean” Kaiser of Fort Scott, KS., Melody Eastwood of Parker, KS., River Tacy of Parker, KS., Janie “JJ’ Ward of Parker, KS., Zoey Brown of Osawatomie, KS., Trevor Ward of Parker, KS., Stormy Walters of Parker, KS., Clinton Walters of Parker, KS., Kayleigh Koelsch, Aby Koelsch, Bailey Koelsch, Sofia Koelsch, Daxton Clinton of Paola, KS., Aviana Clinton of Olathe, KS., Jasmine Carol of Abilene, TX., Dalton Howard of Paola, KS., Brooklyn Roberts of Paola, KS. and Dillion Roberts of Paola, KS. Jean is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Dell and her sister-in-law, Shirley Dell, niece, Chelle Decker of Topeka, KS., nephews Robert Dell of Topeka, KS., and Richard Dell of Olathe, KS., great nephews, Luke Dell and Theodore Decker and great niece, Lacey Dell all of Topeka, KS.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23rd at the McGilley & Frye funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens 13901 South Black Bob Road Olathe, Kansas 66062. Visitation 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23rd two hours prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
