Dennis Wayne Allenbrand

Dennis W. Allenbrand, 59, of Pittsburg, KS passed away peacefully March 1, 2015 at his home. Dennis will forever be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula St., Olathe, KS 66061. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Dennis was the 13th child of AC and Pearl Allenbrand. He was born on March 6, 1955 in Gardner, KS. At age 7 he went to reside at Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka. He moved to Norton, Kansas in his late teens and remained there until age 24, when he moved to New Horizons in Pittsburg, Kansas. During his time there, he made many lifelong friends who were instrumental in his development. He moved to the care of New Hope of Pittsburg in April of 2008. Many of his caregivers made the move with him, which was a blessing in his life. Linda, Deborah, John, Helen, Mindy, Misti and others were his special angels, providing him with loving care.

Dennis participated in Special Olympics for over 30 years. He was especially fond of basketball, competing just last month and winning gold and silver medals. He was a happy, fun-loving person and was well-loved wherever he went.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, AC and Pearl Allenbrand; brothers Fred Allenbrand and Woody Allenbrand; sister Lelia Allenbrand Chance; nephews Chris Chance, Keith Chance, Jay Chesney, and Matthew McDaniel; and niece Sydney Burger Weathers.

He is survived by brothers Roger Allenbrand and wife Sandi, Curtis Allenbrand and wife Linda, Kenny Allenbrand and wife Patsy, and Leland Allenbrand; sisters Merilyn Allenbrand, Nell Ann Dean and husband Richard, Patsy Jackson and husband Paul, Judy Roberts and husband Doug, and Mary Jo McDaniel and husband Walt; as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to New Hope Special Olympics, 2614 North Joplin Street, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
