

Dorothy Dean (Minor) Jennings, 91, died in Shawnee, Kansas on February 8th, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband and family. Dorothy was born in Rocheport, Missouri on June 28th, 1924 to Ernest and Lydia Minor. She was preceded in death by her parents, and was the last survivor of her 7 siblings and her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kimmy Jennings.
After high school, Dorothy worked in Columbia Missouri’s Cancer Hospital then onto Dental College. She worked as a dental assistant in early and again in later years until Bob’s retirement in 1983. Dorothy and Bob traveled in a 5th wheel and bought houses in Glasgow and Windsor Missouri where they enjoyed remodeling and making new friends. Harlingen Texas was their winter home in a trailer at Emerald Gove travel Park. They loved spending time with their wonderful friends there and going into Mexico.
Dorothy loved to read, paint, garden, and host events. She was a great mother, Girl Scout leader of several troops, room mother, red hatter, cook for the lions club and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Dorothy played a big part in getting the Desoto Scout House Remodeled and the Desoto Swimming Pool built, all of this helped her receive the “Citizen of the year” award.
She is survived by her devoted husband Bob Jennings, daughter and son-in-law Kim and Andy Everson, Grandkids, Cali Seddon, Cassie Copes, Bobbie Jo Winder and Jake Jennings, along with 6 great grandchildren, AJ, Keira, Hayden, Rylan, Landon, Paisley and Nova.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00p.m. on Saturday, February 13th at the McGilley and Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula Olathe, KS. 66061, with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00p.m. Private Graveside Services will be at the Silent City Cemetery in Desto, KS.
